The Complete Newborn Session (In Home Newborn Session)

Meet Teddy.

It’s a joy and a privilege to be among the first to meet and hold your precious newborn baby. I consider myself extremely lucky, to be trusted with so many families and to be their storyteller. This session was done during a recent snowstorm. Lucky for me baby Teddy was warm and snuggly and ready to sleep her way through the snow and her session.

I can never get enough of sweet newborn smiles. I’m also a sucker for a lady in gray 🙂

I sometimes use Mom’s wedding veil in this shot below. It’s a lovely way to marry the past to the present.

Teddy is holding an important piece of her parent’s history. The seashells they created for their beach wedding.

The “moose ring” was the ring her Mama was proposed to with! It’s really lovely when I can add in meaningful symbols of your relationship and history.

Teddy really wanted to do a Star Wars picture for her Daddy 🙂

Parent photos are often taken in the master bedroom, but I like to move around a lot and see what the light does in all areas of your home. It’s important to me your photos represent your family. Having the session take place in your home makes room for intimacy.

I love how black and white makes this one photo so powerful. That koala grip on her squishy baby, gets me every time.

Special thanks to Teddy and her lovely parents.

I love being your memory keeper and can’t wait to see Teddy as she grows up! We’ll have to plan a LOVE cake smash!

xo

Why do all my #cakesmash sessions end the same way?
I very recently noticed, the absence of the voice I very recently noticed, the absence of the voice in my head. It’s taken a lot of effort on my part, a lot of re-thinking, my thinking. Today I turned to my guru of a husband and said, I just don’t seem to be able to worry the way i’m used to worrying about nearly anything. He replied, yeah...it’s so boring.
He followed that up by saying- “soon you’ll realize the moments that you’re in have more meaning. You’ll feel everything more deeply.”
I’ve come to think of this quiet as a gift I’ve given myself. There’s this feeling of acceptance of what is, that I haven’t been able to get to for my whole life. It’s so quiet here. So blissfully quiet.
This weekend we had to do Fletcher’s #rainraingoaway cake smash outside because my studio isn’t finished. The windows arrived well over a month ago and broke before they left the warehouse. They had to be re-ordered, re-made, re-delivered. It’s very frustrating but it’s also completely out of my control. I thought of 2020 as the year of the ultimate pivot and yet here I am in 2021 still pivoting- only now I accept that the pivot is the point.

I can not control outcomes. I have no control over your babies, or 1 year olds, or their sessions. But I think that Matt is right...when I’m with your families I feel gratitude for that moment in the deepest part of soul. The quiet in my head has made room to feel the love in my heart. In case I ever have forgotten to say it, thank you for sharing your energy with me. I appreciate you, so deeply.

*last picture is these two brothers whose #rainbow and #rain photos will hang on opposite sides of their room. How do you like that metaphor? Their Mama’s found the cutest way to represent life and making the best out of both. Those are my people 🌈 🌧
There remain, reasons to celebrate. Traditions to There remain, reasons to celebrate. Traditions to continue. People to share your joy with. Because no matter what, we all keep moving forward- even when it’s hard...especially when it’s hard.
You might not know it by looking right at her, but You might not know it by looking right at her, but she’s a future field hockey star! She’s going to be strong, and steady. She’s going to be a tiny powerhouse, who will shock you with her perseverance and determination. Omg I can’t wait for the world to meet her! If you knew her parents- you’d know she’s the luckiest of all. There’s so much good in the pockets of this world🥰 Meet Eleanor💕

It’s baby staying in your arms, tons of connected #familyphotos and a zero pressure situation for his #bigbrother and loads and loads of love. These sessions are full of family memories. Especially silly during this pandemic, I’ve gotten many request for lifestyle #newbornphotos I’m grateful to be fully vaccinated but I’m always up for whatever my clients are up for. It’s also lovely for me to have something different to edit and spend creative time with!
