Kate Spade made a necklace for my girl! Wasn't that so nice of her? Oh Sunny, I'll have to buy this one just for you! The morning I gave birth to Sunny, Matt gave me my "G" necklace. Now every night while I nurse her she holds on to it for security. I  have a lot of beautiful jewelry but my necklace means the most to me. Long after she out grows nursing and being […]

Teething

Sunny is teething. Last night I thought I felt the sharp sting of one tiny baby tooth peaking above the surface. I asked Matt to shove his finger in her mouth and confirm that Sunny does in fact have a tiny tooth emerging. The conclusion? Our baby is sprouting her first tooth. The issue? It's in the weirdest position possible. It's not the traditional center bottom tooth ( the center incisor). It's not even the […]

Today is my last day on 10 Grand In Your Hand, a DIY show I have been Post Supervisor on for the last 2 months. This was my first gig back since having Sunny and I have enjoyed my time as a working Mama so much, in large part to the amazing people I work with. As a freelance television producer I work about 8 months out of the year, on several different shows, for […]

  • I could’ve written a book about this tiny man I I could’ve written a book about this tiny man I met, and the massive smiles he sent my way. What a #joy it was to photograph this miniature #man at his #complete #cakesmashsession this ones theme was grays and whites and I’m so happy I got to photograph his parents too!
It’s that last shot for me. The puppies really k It’s that last shot for me. The puppies really know how to sell the whole, we just had a baby thing😍
The other day we took my children sledding. The hi The other day we took my children sledding. The hill was massive, it might as well have been a mountain. My oldest got hurt, my middle became a stick figure in the snow, on his belly, and crying. My youngest, flew down the mountain with reckless abandon. A parade of giggles and claps and “lets do it agains” trailed from her lips , like snow dust.
In that moment I looked at my husband and said, “you can clearly see each of their personalities from here.”
One slightly broken but always willing to get back up and try again, one very moody and utterly committed to his mood for better or worse, and one carefree and as wild the day is long.
I swear to you not one of them is us.
Not.
One.
Pieces of us, sure, but a whole? Not at all. They weren’t raised to be pleasers so they don’t try. They aren’t religious, so they have no guilt to speak of. They wear their spirits like armor- tough but not impenetrable. They are fully committed to being exactly who they are.
But what’s so fascinating, is so are my husband and I.
THATS how they’re like us. THATS the us in them. It has taken me the better part of 11 years of parenthood to understand this one small footnote. They aren’t us. They are fully themselves, and that’s the “us” in them.
I should warn them that this way of living won’t net you a million friends or #followers, BUT the ones who love you, love you completely. And the ones you love, you love completely.
I’ve been trying to think of a clever caption fo I’ve been trying to think of a clever caption for this one all day. I don’t really have one. What I do have is a complete and instant connection to this family and this baby. #anofficerandalady

I was reflecting yesterday on what it’s like to I was reflecting yesterday on what it’s like to have an 11 year old. I want to say there was a transition period between her being a little girl and becoming a full blown #tween but in truth it feels like that shift took place overnight, and while I wasn’t looking. It occurred to me yesterday that she will never be the younger version of herself ever again. And it’s crazy because I have my 8 and 5 year old, so in theory I shouldn’t need my 11 year old to stay little. I have little! But the thing is, you don’t miss an age, you miss that particular kid at that particular age. You’re kids aren’t interchangeable.
So much of my day is spent with babies and young parents who have ever possibility ahead of them. When you’re in that baby making phase of life, you really don’t think about your baby being anything other than your baby, because that’s what you know. That’s all you know. So when suddenly that baby is playing scrabble on her own phone, or staying in her own room, or walking out the door for trips to 7-11 with her girlfriends- you’re both completely proud and totally flattened by the passage of time. Here we’ve had every waking second together and somehow I still couldn’t stop her from growing up. There are things about this age that I love- I love hearing her thoughts, I love watching her accomplish things, I love that I can talk to her like she’s an adult- but any parent of a tween will tell you there’s a lot about this age that is downright painful. Only I don’t think it’s her who it pains...
Life is no straight lines. I kind of thought I’d learned all there is to learn about this parenting thing, but learning to let go, is by far the hardest part. #2021
I’m fortunate enough to see this little family f I’m fortunate enough to see this little family frequently. This week we did a little #mommyandme session with #Navy who I’ve photographed from #bellytobaby
We’ve become friends, I’ve memorized the route to their house...I don’t know. It’s really fun to get to play for a bit and produce something that brings us both so much joy.
Always lovely to see you @nicki_desilva I hope you remember the weight of him in your arms forever. And if ever you forget I hope see this and you can feel it forever in your heart. #navylife
