I needed a session to help kick off the Spring Photography season. My sweet 5 year old was happy to help me out.
I took her pictures Saturday afternoon and in 10 minutes she made about 100 different faces.
I love this little face. This little face is sometimes looking like the face of a big girl and that is a lot for my Mama heart to take. But thank goodness she’ll still sit for mini sessions with me, I hope she always will.
Through my work, I’m documenting her face from infancy to adulthood- and no one is more surprised or amazed then me.
When she turns to the side she still has these sweet straight baby hairs. Gracie was a nearly bald baby for her first year of life, and then what grew in where those side hairs. When her curls first appeared they were loopy and only on the top of her head and the back of her neck; she had a mullet for 2 years. So when I see those straight baby hairs and that fresh little face that made me a Mother, I’m almost always over come with emotion.
I can flash back to my first baby, who is now my big girl.
I suppose that’s what Spring is right? The newness of things and people and the planet. It’s the fresh start, the winter growth, the part where you stretch out and try to touch the sun.
Don’t put off photographing your children as they grow. You think you’ll remember everything and you won’t. But sometimes, if you’re very lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of a time before now, and you’ll find yourself in a familiar place of comfort and joy.
