Mini Session vs. Full Session: Which is best for your family?
As much as I am in denial that summer is halfway through (AHH!) I can’t help but be a little excited for the Fall Family Photo season! As one of the top-rated family photographers in Northern New Jersey and the NYC area, outside of my birthday and Christmas, it’s one of my favorite times of year! I understand that as you are considering options for a family photography session it can be a bit daunting, so here are some practical tips to help when choosing between a Mini or Full photo session for your family.
Mini Session Facts
Duration: Typically 20 minutes
Number of Photos: 15-20 edited images
Cost: $250-$450
Flexibility: Less flexibility as we can only offer these on specific dates and in a predetermined location chosen by the photographer.
Great for:
Yearly family updates
Holiday cards
When you only need a few good shots
Best For:
Families with young children who have short attention spans
Busy families looking for a quick and easy photo session
Seasonal or themed photos, like spring mini sessions at the Reeves Reade Arboretum in Summit, NJ or Brookdale Park, in Bloomfield NJ.
Mini Session Pros:
Time-Efficient: Short and sweet, perfect for busy sports schedules and fun family weekends.
Cost-Effective: The lower price point makes it possible to schedule one every year!
Low Commitment: Less time involved.
Themed Sessions: Creative and seasonal themes to make your photos truly unique and memorable!
Mini Session Cons:
Limited Variety: Fewer photos and less time for different poses.
Less Personalization: The shorter session time means less time for candid moments.
Quick Pace: Some families may feel rushed with the shorter time frame, but I promise as an experienced, professional family photographer you will still get great photos! However, if you are a family that tends to be a bit camera shy and need more time to relax in front of the camera, a mini session may not be right for you.
Full Session
Duration: Typically 1 hour
Number of Photos: About 75-100 edited images
Cost: Starts at $550.00
Flexibility: More flexible scheduling and location options- you choose your own location! As a recommended family photographer,I have experience photographing families in the NYC area, Northern New Jersey, and even the Jersey Shore!
Great for:
A comprehensive photo shoot
Capturing a wide range of poses, outfits, and settings
Best For:
Families looking for a more personalized and relaxed experience
Special occasions like milestone birthdays or family reunions
Families wanting a diverse set of images for albums, wall displays, or gifts
Pros of Full Sessions:
Variety and Depth: More time for different outfits, and poses.
Background: Allows you to choose your favorite local spot like an apple orchard, or pumpkin farm which would be perfect for fall family photos!
Personalization: Greater opportunity to tailor the session to your family’s unique dynamics.
Relaxed Atmosphere: More time to get comfortable, which could yield more natural and candid shots.
Comprehensive Coverage: Captures a wider range of moments and expressions.
Cons of Full Sessions:
Higher Cost: More expensive due to the extended time and number of finished images.
Time-Consuming: Requires a larger time commitment. A Full family session is usually 45 minutes to an hour.
Potential for Fatigue: Longer sessions can be tiring, especially for young children.
