I enjoy outdoor maternity sessions as much as the next person, but I think there is something really intimate and beautiful in, in studio maternity sessions.
To me it’s all of the best elements working together. The studio is warm, outfits are pressed and ready, the lighting is set, music is blasting- and you’re free to be fully connected to your baby in those moments.
In the studio I can control the lighting and the elements. In short, we can do more intimate work. I can not stress enough how important the studio lighting is to a successful indoor session. When I’m shooting outside, we have loads of options to keep light on your face or off, depending on the session- however in the studio I use multiple lights to create the colors and textures that I’m looking for.
You’re always welcomed to use the client closet of gowns, but I encourage bringing a pair of old jeans, a bandu bra top, and tank top too. To me the best in studio portraits for maternity – are those that are relaxed, with light nudity to show off your changing shape. I will often style clients with a draped piece of fabric and some clips. My goal is always to get connected images that remind you of this time in your life, and also show off your beauty.
Your spouse or partner is always welcomed to participate, and of course any other little ones you may have at home who are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their baby.
I can’t wait to see you in front of my lens.
