Hey Jude,
It started on Sunday. Your Dad was holding both your hands and then let them go.
One step, then the ground. “Did you see that?????” he shouted, I did.
He called from work on Monday. “Did he do it again?” Nope, I said. But later that night you did. One step. Two step. Ground.
Today you stood up once, then twice, then three times- that makes it a new phase; a new place.
We went to Kelly’s this afternoon. You stood. Let go. One step. Two step. Ground. The kids all cheered for you. Owen brought you a toy snake in celebration- seems like an appropriate gift for you.
Then tonight… you did it. You really did it. You stood, you clapped your hands. One step. Two step. Three steps. Ground.
Clap. Clap.
Your sister screamed.
We saw it. We saw it together. The three amigos.
I remember hers, I saw it. I got to be there. I filmed it.
I was here. I saw it. We saw it. We screamed. I tweeted.
You hopped away.
Wherever you go, however you get there, however long it takes you. I’ll be there- holding my breath, protecting your spirit, deflecting the fear.
If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.
