Bye Mama

In  Sunny

Our first workout and trip to the Y was fantastic, albeit a little bit disheartening.

Sunny is pretty social, way more than I ever thought she’d be back when she was still my very quite little girl. I think more than the people or children, for her its the energy around her. Bright lights and screaming toddlers excite her. At our Y there are balls and games, doll houses and new toys that have yet to be licked and tested.

When we got there a little early ate lunch very slowly as she took a lot of time to crawl away from me, choosing instead to follow a stray ball and a little boy who could sing his full ABC’s. When I  dropped her off at the little daycare she immediately  bypassed  the helpers and instead b-lined for the doll house. She choose a bright yellow pony with red corn silk hair and the “Dad” from the doll house family.

Me: Bye.

Sunny: Bye, Bye!!!

Helper: She seems fine.

Me: She’s just holding back, she’ll look for me when I leave.

Helper: Oh. Really? Cause she seems fine.

Me: You see it too? She’s totally gonna leave me for California one day.

Helper: Ha! Ha! Or maybe China. (Now picture me giving helper the stink eye.)

I went off to workout and as Helper predicted Sunny was indeed fine. When I came back 1 hour to the minute later, there she was my beautiful baby playing with a 3 1/2 year old named Lola. Lola who along with Helper gave me the full report that Sunny played with every single kid, she loves her snacks ( no surprise there) and loves the older girls and all of the dolls.

For the record when my baby saw me she paused for about 5 seconds and then crawled  to me and up my leg for a hug.

I will not lie to y’all I really did think she would have some separation anxiety when I left her because after all my whole life revolves around her. But being with her day in and day out actually created something unexpected; she trust that I will always come back for her and that she will always find her way back to me.  I hope that many moons from now when my baby is no longer a baby, when there is no Helper to tell me how she did and what she did while I was away from her, Sunny  will always find her way back to me.

Happy Friday everyone. Enjoy your weekend.
